1938 Zenith Shutterdial Radio ChassisUp for auction is an original 1938 zenith shutterdial radio 12s245 chassis, serial# r-400961. This is a 12 tube chassis using the following tubes 6k7g(2), 6l7g, 6j5g(4), 6h6g, 6t5, 6v6g(2), 5y4g. This auction si for the chassis only as there is no cabinet. The original knobs are missing as is the glass. Teh knobs are from a guitar and do not go with the set. The chassis has hda a general clean up and inspection. The pots adn tube sockets have been cleaned. The shutter dial mechanism lubricated. The tubes have been cleaned and tested on my jakcson 648 and they are all in the good range.
The chassis powers up adn works. I didn't check the complete frequency range as i don't have the ocrrect antennae. I listened to a baseball game on it while working on another project. There is some corrosion as can be seen in the pictures, mainly the right front of the chassis and between the main dial face and the backing plate and on the main dial afce itself. There is some paint flaking on the main dial face, not too bad though (see pictures). The shutter dials aer very clean. The shutter mechanism works, all of the metal leaves open and close. The motor for the automatic tuning works fine but the drive belts are long gone (if you're looking at this you probably know they are available). The chassis is in very good condition for being 70 years old!
