Beautiful, restored rca little nipper two-tone miniature table radio model 9tx3 manufactured in 1939 by one of the most famous radio manufacturers of all time the rca victor co, owned in part by ge and at&t early on, and started in 1919 in camden, new jersey. The deco looking cabinet is finished ni dark walnut and cherry, and light tan trim. This was part of a series which included catalin, beetle plaskon and bakelite sets. The radio plays am.
I recommend these tiny ac-dc sets should not me played for omre than a few hours at a time, and left unplugged when not in use. If you are a lover of miniature sets, or collect little nippers this would make a great addition to your collection. Chassis this radio has nwe capacitors. Resistors were checked and replaced if out fo tolerance, tubes checked and replaced as needed.
All moving parts weer cleaned and lubricated. Teh radio was cleaned inside and out. Knobs and dial move as they should, and the radio picks up local stations just fine, with excellent tone nad volume. About the cabinet finish my whole lacquer finishing process takes approximately 3 weeks, from the first coat of lacquer to the final rub. I build up about 12 to 15 coats of lacquer over a week long period, with a light wet sanding using 800 grit sandpaper on every third coat.
When i feel i have built up enough lacquer, i begin wet sanding wiht 1000, 2000 and 4000 grit sandpaper. I again apply 3 more coats of lacquer, then wet sand with 2000 and 4000 grit sandpaper. I then rub out the finish with fine cut rubbing compound, and finally a supre fine glazing compound. oN wax. As you can see, it's more than an afternoons work applying a few zealous glossy coats of lacquer. And of-course, i use only mohawk professional grade lacquers on my cabinet work. The results are magnificent- ending up with an almost glass like finish. Details the original speckled knobs were meticulously cleaned and buffed.
The dial knob lights up as ti should. I addde a reproduction cardboard back. The finish is msooth and subtle to the touch. Dimensions9 wide, 5.5 tall, and 4 deep. Finally the radio plays loud and clear, with good otne and volume.
