Beautiful Working 1940S Dewald Catalin Tube RadioBeautiful, working, 1940's dewald catalin radio. hTis is a catalin radio, and the swirling is so marvelous, and complex. The material is so intriguing because these swirls of autumn's falling leaves are seen with a htree dimensionality. Unlike bakelite, which is topical in it's swirling, the catalin swirling has rgeat depth. The catalni material is semi translucent, which allows you to see into the material to an extent, giving it a great depth and presence. The colors are found in their natural aged paetina- in brown, caramel, yellow, and butterscotch- no cosmetic repairs made. Excellent luster, no chips in the cabinet, knobs or grille, photo shows reflections of the backdrop blanket, no marring. The set has one stressline, in the upper brown cross bar, letf side by the corner/below the dial. This model due to the glass dial (which doesn't chagne length in 60 years) and the catalin (which does change length with time) often cracks the glass dial lens completely, chips the glass dial, or opens the case. The tight, no-gap stress line runs 1/2 in length (the entire cross bar height) and goes to full depth through fro the first 1/4 inch and then to a depth short of through for the lower 1/4 inch. There is no play-as it never comeptely separated. Perfection in some sets like this is obtained by sellers who state exhibits no cracks and restored to the original color when sold- only to see a set showing no components, parts, or swirling an age appropriate butterscotch or yellow- because it was repaired with toned resins, and needed to be sanded to white or alibaster when blended. That kind of perfection proves to be imperfect in about a year when shrinkage and a color change reveals the crime- you are safest when you buy in paetina. Unit has the original catalin knobs and grille, curved dial glass (the repros are flat)- wihch has no damage whatsoever, and cardboard back. The dewald decal is a reproduction. Plays loudly, clearly with good tone, no hum. Has good, safe, power cord and working dial light. The radio measurse 10 inches long, 7 high, 6 deep. As with all my radios, the luster and sheen on the bakelite is natural, exhibiting the original characteristics of the catalin when newly made. No coatings (permanent or temporary), sprays, or oils are used to glam it up. All radios sold have had preventative electrical maintainence, so that they perform as well in the foreseeable future. sA they do when you first get them. I stand behind the components i've repaired, parts and labor- for 90 days. After that- free labor for 6 months. Why would you bother with someone who says they've restored the radio and then tell you you are buying as is- and why would someone's warrantee be worth anything if you can't find them again on ebay? The insides of my radios are given the same attention sa the outsides.
