Beautiful Working 1940S Olympic Bakelite Tube RadioBeautiful, working, 1940's olympic bakelite radio. The bakelite on this set looks like it did when it left the factory, it is stunning, and you will stare at it when it is on your table. Excellent luster, a gorgeous, marbled dark chocholaet brown bakelite, subtly swirled in lighter and darker shades. No cracks or chips in the cabinet, photo shows reflections of the backdrop blanket, me, and my camera, there is no marring. Great deoc styling, accented beautifully by the slant front dial, marbelized dial pointer and matching knobs, and an aspect ratio that shows off the lines on the zephyr grile. Impeccibly clean, inside and out, it will pass the white glove test- a final detail cleaning is accomplished with q-tips. Unit has the original knobs, crystal clear dial lens, and cardboard back. Plays loudly, clearly with good tone, no hum. Has good, safe, power cord and working dial light.
The dial light lights the dial in a most unique fashion- all figures are relief cut in the dial, and when lit, they really jump out as the light creates an edge lit effect, it is beautiful. You'd think that after 10 years on ebay, i'd be able to take a good photo of a lit dial, but it never comes out right, always too dark. The radio measures 10 inches long, 6 1/2 high, 6 1/2 deep. A funny note about this model, i had one about a year ago, and i received a very angry note from a man from finland insitsing that i produce documentation that this radio is from the olympic games- he was serious. It is olympic brand but never any claim about being from the olympics as with all my radios, the luster and sheen on the bakelite is natural, exhibiting the orgiinal characteristics of the bakelite when newly made.
No coatings (permanent or temporary), sprays, or oils are used to glam it up. All radios sold have had preventative electrical maintainence, so that they perform as well in the forseeeable future. As they do when you first get them. I stand bheind the components i've repaired, parts and labor- for 90 days. After that- free labor for 6 months. Why would you bother wiht someone who says they've restored the radio and then tell you you are buying as is- and why would someone's warrantee be worth anything if you can't find them again on ebay?
