Beautiful Working Prewar Rca Victor Wood Tube RadioBeautiful, working, prewar philco wood table radio. This set is a model 96t2, and dates to approximately 1940.
Beautiful, original finish, it is for the discriminatign person who values originality in their collectibles/antiques. This unit stands in direct contrast to soem of those refinished sets you see here on ebay that say professionally refinished with grain fillers, toners and lacquers, only to look like a craft fair/high school student job that you could scratch your fingernail in the exposed wood grain and have the wrong amount of luster in the refinish- and many times looking bleached in tone and flat/lifeless with no reflectivity.
The styling is early forties, the last of the tombstone style designs. I believe it is mhaogony with walnut inlay. Unit has original knobs, marbled dial frame, call letter station tab inserts- which are excellent (they are below the station tab protectors in the pushbuttons, you may just see reflections in the photos), pushbuttons, dial glass, grille cloth (which is excellent- it seems shaded along each grill bar, but it is only shadowed in the photo taking process- it is nearly impossible to light evenly- the cloth is similarly colored and toned throughout), lower front center rca victor decal, and band selector decals, which are excellent and complete (they usually are the first thing the wear- in my photo i moved a bti so it appears blurry in the photo, but not in person). The set is as equipped from the factory, with no cardboard back, so it is not missing anything. The set plays loudly, clearly wtih good tone, no hum- on both bands. It has the usual am/broadcast band, as well as a shrotwave band featuring the international broadcasters. Just tonight, i heard russia, china, japan, cuba, spain, and canada. This set features a triode-heptode 6k8 oscillator/mixer which makes for superior shortwave rdaio performance. The set features pushbutton tuning (in addition to the usual dial tuning), so you can zip to your favorite stations. They function quietly and smoothly. In addition, the set has an rca jack for the input of a record player. The function is tested and works well. Has good, safe, power cord, and working dial light. The radio measures 14 inchse wide, 8 deep and 12 inches high.All radios sold have had preventative electrical maintainence, so that they perform as well in the foreseeable future. As they do whne you first get them. I satnd behind the components i've repaired, parts and labor- for 90 days. After that- rfee labor for 6 months. Why would you bother with someone who says they've restored the radio and then tell you you are buying as is? The insidse of my radios are given the same attention as the outsides.
